We’ve been busy in the sodalimon studio here in Istanbul. Creating new little wooden houses and working on some new and exciting products that we hope you will love. We’ve started making some paper towel racks and holders in our own quirky style. We’ll post some pictures soon.
But for now, here’s one of my favorite little wonky wooden house couples that we have created recently.
The straight house on the left is done with an old weathered piece of wood that we bought from a lumber yard here in Istanbul. It was gnarled and very rough but we thought it just needed some loving. So with a little sanding and some paint it came out looking pretty sweet. What do you think?
The little wooden wonky house on the right matches the straight house pretty well, even though the style and technique of both are very different.
We first cut the wonky house to the shape we wanted and then we added some molding paste, along with that interesting texture that can be seen on the walls and roof. We then painted it a sandy color and added some shading.
Because of the thick texture that we created, we thought the door should be a little more substantial, so we created a 3 dimensional door from some drift wood that we had lying around and then painted a door on it.
Here’s the back view (pictured above) of the little wooden sandy house couple. We love how they’re so different but go so well together 😍
We’ve started taking photographs from the bottom too as we want to show that we’re using real wood. People assume that we use MDF but we much prefer the look, smell and feel of real wood from real trees.
We also like to recycle as much as possible so we’re always looking out for abandoned and unloved pieces of wood lying around the place. If we see wood on the side of the road or sticking out of rubbish bins we’re always happy to stop and give it a new life 😁
So what do you think of the new sandy couple? If you would like to adopt them and give them a happy home forever, just contact us here to purchase it. We are now posting home decor and gifts from sodalimon worldwide. Follow us on Instagram for more regular posts.
